Winter Bird

Michael Goldman

Oh of all the birds I know

Just one has a ball of snow

Right in the center of a hood

As a true Merganser Should

Coming south from northern lakes

An Ohio river your winter home makes

Dipping down you slide through water

Right next to a little otter

You won’t stay here long I know

But your snowball puts on quite a show

Plunging for fish with all your might

I break a branch and you take flight

Farewell Merganser, see you next time.
